I have finally come to the exciting part “Israel”, and it is not without reason that we must address Israel, for Israel have to do with the promises to Israel through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the hope, the kingdom of God and salvation. But not only that, I have receive many questions after the series of “Matthew 24” and “Revelation” regarding Israel today, God’s promise to Abraham, “the promised land” and how we should relate to Jews and Israel today. Many calories has been eaten and burn since I last posted a post here, but I haven’t disappear totally. The reason for the long time is time… more specific lack of time. I have been in Norway and many other stuff have been going around, but I’m here.
We have went through 11 parts of the series of Revelation of John and are now come to an end. Since I like a series of 12 part better than 11, I want to end the series nicely with a summary, so lets start.
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready” (Rev. 21:1-2)
In the previous post we was looking at the New Jerusalem as the new creation which took the place of the old Jerusalem. We looked at the time frame, God’s progressive work in history and a bit superficial of the Bride and its character.
For most people, Revelation 21:1 to 22:5 is an event expected to happen in the future for what they call the “millennium”, and will be the eternal perfect order after the final judgment. But this can not be right, …why? read more to find out!
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev. 21:1-2)
Now that we have come to Revelation. 21 and will turn to “a new heaven and a new earth”, it may be that those who have followed the series, have a clue of where I go. I want to show that the new heavens and new earth are present, but it probably needs more explanation.
We Christians have been taught to believe that in ‘the end’ we will literally go into the perfect new heavens and new earth, dressed in the new physical body through the physical resurrection. Thus we are taught that Revelation 21:1 to 22:5 is about the Millennium that will come sometime in the future. But what I will argue is that the new creation that John presents here is a present reality as the ‘perfect order’, and will perfectly fulfill and replace. That is a new creation presented as an ideal image of the Christian faith in time and in the soil. Curious how this can be? Continue reading!
So far in this series about Revelation we have seen how to read Revelation, and John’s intention with the letter was to warn his brothers and sisters in the various churches on “things which must happen soon” (Rev 1:3, 22:6) – the judgement!. We’ve seen a couple of important characters who played a major role in this judgment, as the harlot, the beast and the other beast. We have seen the mountains move, the 32.4 kg’s of hail falling from the sky and the city divided into three parts. We have even seen the blood that flowed as high as the horses’ bridles. Yes, it’s hard to get away that Revelation is a book with strong visual depictions, but what is left of Revelation?
“And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.” (Rev. 16:17-21).
Under God’s wrath in the seventh bowl of Revelation. 16, which continues to unfold the events of the year 70, we are witnessed an even more dramatic evidence of the first century fulfillment. There are two characteristics that appear here. One is that the city is divided into three and the other one is the big hail that fell from the sky. In this post I want to write about some of the events in the judgment and the meaning of it. I can’t cover every seal, bowl or trumpet because of space and I still not have everything clear of every single verse of them. But the links between the historical facts and Revelation are many, and I take only a few of these. Because of I want to show the historical facts, it will be some excerpts from our friend and historian Josephus, and there again a long post, so I had to divide it into two blog posts.
In these series, I have several times mention that Israel’s rejection of their Messiah and the persecution of the saints would result in a major disaster, which is now happening. This is what the prophesy of John in Revelation is about. A divine judgment on Israel, where the destruction is over the people, land, and Temple. God literally tearing away the temple from the historic scene by using the Roman army, which he prophetically calls “his army” (Matthew 22:7). Continue reading Revelation pt. 7 – Moving of Mountains
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.” (Rev. 13:11).
You have now been shown two characters in Revelation, namely, the harlot and the beast who came up out of the sea (Revelation 13:1, 2, 11). But John also saw another animal who came up from the earth, it had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. There are actually two animals we are dealing with in Revelation. So lets look at this another animal from land. Continue reading Revelation pt. 6 – “Another Beast”
Revelation has a couple of important characters and we have already introduced the harlot, but there are a couple more that we must be introduced and one of them is the beast. This guy comes on the stage in Revelation. 13:1.
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.” (Rev. 13:1).
The beast has a characteristic that I know many fear even today, 666. If anyone has a little fun of “tagging” some people as “the beast”, there are others who are more in earnest and are serious enough. Many politicians and prominent people have unfortunately been tagged as the animal; Ronald Reagan, Michael Gorbatjov, the Rothschild family, Putin, the Pope(s) plus many more, although it has been proven to be none of them. …so who is it? Read on!
“And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.” (Rev. 11:8).
I flinched, it was like some thrown a bucket of ice water over me and I froze. I looked down in the Bible and read the verse again … «Yes, it is actually there,» I said to myself. I turn the pages frantically until I find a confirmation. «Yes, there it says …» “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” The Holly Spirit shaken me vigorously and it was as if you had thrown rocks at the kitchen window and freezes when the window shatters and you realize you’ve done something wrong.
