Many calories has been eaten and burn since I last posted a post here, but I haven’t disappear totally. The reason for the long time is time… more specific lack of time. I have been in Norway and many other stuff have been going around, but I’m here.
We have went through 11 parts of the series of Revelation of John and are now come to an end. Since I like a series of 12 part better than 11, I want to end the series nicely with a summary, so lets start.
Continue reading Revelation pt. 12 – Summary
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready” (Rev. 21:1-2)
In the previous post we was looking at the New Jerusalem as the new creation which took the place of the old Jerusalem. We looked at the time frame, God’s progressive work in history and a bit superficial of the Bride and its character.
For most people, Revelation 21:1 to 22:5 is an event expected to happen in the future for what they call the “millennium”, and will be the eternal perfect order after the final judgment. But this can not be right, …why? read more to find out!
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev. 21:1-2)
Now that we have come to Revelation. 21 and will turn to “a new heaven and a new earth”, it may be that those who have followed the series, have a clue of where I go. I want to show that the new heavens and new earth are present, but it probably needs more explanation.
We Christians have been taught to believe that in ‘the end’ we will literally go into the perfect new heavens and new earth, dressed in the new physical body through the physical resurrection. Thus we are taught that Revelation 21:1 to 22:5 is about the Millennium that will come sometime in the future. But what I will argue is that the new creation that John presents here is a present reality as the ‘perfect order’, and will perfectly fulfill and replace. That is a new creation presented as an ideal image of the Christian faith in time and in the soil. Curious how this can be? Continue reading!
So far in this series about Revelation we have seen how to read Revelation, and John’s intention with the letter was to warn his brothers and sisters in the various churches on “things which must happen soon” (Rev 1:3, 22:6) – the judgement!. We’ve seen a couple of important characters who played a major role in this judgment, as the harlot, the beast and the other beast. We have seen the mountains move, the 32.4 kg’s of hail falling from the sky and the city divided into three parts. We have even seen the blood that flowed as high as the horses’ bridles. Yes, it’s hard to get away that Revelation is a book with strong visual depictions, but what is left of Revelation?
What I feel is left for me to explain is the 1000 year binding of Satan, the new creation (new heaven and the new earth) and the church, so let’s jump on the first one, “1000 years”, which many call the “millennium”, and the binding of Satan.
